Description The painting is an illustration of a four-dimensional hypercube (also known as a tesseract), which is a theoretical shape. The logic behind it is as follows: Since we can illustrate a cube, which is three dimensional, in a drawing, where the drawing is basically two dimensional, then it stands to reason that we can illustrate a four dimensional shape with a sculpture which is three dimensional - and that can be illustrated in a painting. --- The painting illustrates the hypothetical 4 dimensional shape that is next in the following logical series, where each figure has one more spacial dimension than the previous: {a point, a straight line segment, a square, a cube, ___, }. Just as one can illustrate a cube in different drawings showing it as seen from various angles, so to, there are different viewing-positions from which to illustrate a 4d cube in a (3d) sculpture or in a (2d) drawing. --- The word 'quartic' means: of the fourth degree [power or exponent]. --- The number of lines that can be placed inside a space, where each line is perpendicular to every other line, -that is the number of dimensions that space has. --- This concept & shapes based on it can be elaborated upon.---Copyrighted.---The above description was written by Kenneth Barry Ossip.
